STEPHEN BAILEY, THE IMMIGRANT WAS THE PROGENITOR OF THE LEE CO, VA

Shortly after his arrival in Maryland, Stephen met the widow of William
Walker,
Ann Jeffreys, and they married on May 21, 1661. Their home is seated on the
bluff overlooking the Yocoma River, which immediatley runs into the Potomac
River at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. (Dennis Bailey, "Another Place in
Time" describes the site; "The beauty of this site can only be described as
breathtaking, as witnessing the home of Stephen and his family 350 years
after
his arrival, seeing the home that he traveled so far and worked so hard to
build was one of my greater moments." Dennis continues; shortley after
settling, Stephen & Ann, together, woudl turn this acreage into one of the
largest tobacco plantations in this part of the country. (The British would
bring three scooners a week & load them with tobacco at the peak harvest
time.)

Hi

My mother's maiden name is Bailey.  I wanted help tracing my line back further then what I have found so far.  I can only go back to my great great grandfather Daniel Haire Bailey.  He married Catherine Caylor.  I don't where they were from, but I know they lived in what is today Deepwater, Missouri, which is in Henry County.  Catherine Caylor's father supposedly owned  most of the land that would become the town of Deepwater.  Any info on the Caylor line would be great, too.

Daniel and Catherine had my great grandfather in 1869, and his name was William Tecumseh Bailey.  My mother knew his name already,  but not his parents's name.  I found their names on the MOHenry rootsweb mailing list just a few months ago.

William Tecumseh Bailey married Leuna Vista Snyder.  He lived from 1869 to 1952.  And his wife lived from 1880 to 1983.  Their son, my grandfather was Eldon Purnell Bailey, born in 1910 and died in 1957.  His wife was Mamie Erhart.  And they had my mom Judith (Bailey) Widener.

Thanks,

Alan Widener
